In the heart of the asteroid belt, between Mars and Jupiter, shines Vesta , a tiny but spectacular world. At 525 kilometers in diameter, it is the second largest asteroid in the Solar System, almost massive enough to be a planet!
What makes Vesta unique is its distinct structure: like Earth, it possesses a metallic core, a rocky mantle, and a volcanic crust. This means it has experienced significant geological activity, a past of fire and fusion, incredible for such a small body!
Its surface is covered with giant craters and steep cliffs. One of them, the Rheasilvia crater, is nearly 500 km wide and 19 km deep, almost the size of Vesta itself! This titanic impact even hurled fragments of rock into space, which ended up… on Earth, in the form of meteorites.
NEWS FLASH: In Roman mythology, Vesta is the goddess of the sacred fire and the hearth, of families, cities, colonies, and religious serenity (the equivalent of Hestia in Greek mythology). She is the sister of the three Olympian gods Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. To tarnish the purity and honor of family life is to offend Vesta and expose oneself to her righteous wrath!
Vesta shines so brightly that she can sometimes be seen with the naked eye from Earth, like a small wandering star. She is the perfect symbol of the hidden strength within small worlds : a survivor, forged by fire, carrying within her the story of planetary origins. Her sticker is just as brilliant, and it's waiting for you on our website!
