Tethys

Tethys is one of Saturn's most fascinating moons. With a diameter of approximately 1,060 km, it is distinguished by its icy, luminous surface, covered in craters and marks left by ancient impacts. Its texture resembles a work of art shaped by time and the cosmos.

What makes Tethys unique? Its enormous Odysseus crater, 400 km long, bears witness to a colossal impact in the past. Nearby, the Ithaca Chasma furrow, a gigantic fault over 2,000 km long, cuts across the moon like a giant scar, telling the turbulent geological story of Tethys.

Its surface is primarily composed of water ice, which gives it its bright sheen and reflects sunlight like a cold diamond in space. Despite its modest size, Tethys plays a role in the gravitational balance of nearby small moons and subtly contributes to the dynamics of Saturn's rings.
