Neptune, the eighth planet from the Sun, is a majestic and untamed world, enveloped in a deep blue that seems straight out of an oceanic dream. It is an ice giant, composed mainly of hydrogen, helium and methane, the latter giving its atmosphere that captivating blue tint.
But behind its peaceful beauty hides a planet in fury : Neptune is the windiest world in the solar system, with gusts reaching over 2,000 km/h ! These winds are faster than the speed of sound, classifying them as supersonic winds! Giant storms, similar to cosmic cyclones, have been swirling across its surface for centuries.
What makes Neptune even more fascinating is that it shines with a mysterious energy, radiating more heat than it receives from the Sun, as if something at the planet's core were constantly churning. Moreover, despite being the planet farthest from the Sun, the title of coldest planet belongs to its neighbour, Uranus.
Neptune shares some traits with its sister planets: Like Jupiter, Neptune has spots on its surface , but these storms are darker and dissipate more quickly than those of the gas giant. And like Saturn, the eighth planet has rings that encircle it, but these are much harder to observe!
Discovered through mathematical calculations even before it was observed, Neptune is also a symbol of human genius : proof that curiosity and science can unlock the secrets of the invisible.
NEWS FLASH: In Roman mythology, Neptune is the god of the sea, horses, springs, and fresh, flowing water (the equivalent of Poseidon in Greek mythology). His main attributes are the trident and his power over the waters and lands (earthquakes).
Neptune is the blue, tempestuous, and distant beauty that reminds us that even at the edge of the solar system, energy and mystery persist. It may seem cold, but its sticker will keep you warm! In fact, it's waiting for you on our website!
