Miranda, one of Uranus' moons, is a small world full of surprises. Despite its modest size, only 470 kilometers in diameter, it boasts a surface that seems straight out of a fractured dream: vertiginous cliffs, immense canyons and chaotic terrains intersect like the scars of a violent past.

What makes Miranda unique is its incredibly varied geology. It is composed of water ice (60%) and silicate rocks (40%). This combination gives it a very clear and reflective appearance, typical of icy moons. It contains gigantic fissures more than 20 kilometers high (more than twice the height of the Grand Canyon!).

This ice-rock mixture also explains why Miranda has very different geological zones : some regions are ancient and riddled with craters, while others appear more recent and “reconstructed,” as if the moon had been broken apart and then glued back together by internal heat ( leaving behind a patchwork of surreal landscapes!), an indication that this small moon has had a geologically active past, or even unexpected internal movements for such a small body.

FLASH NEWS: Like several moons of Uranus, Miranda is named after a character in Shakespeare's works. She is the daughter of the magician Prospero in the play The Tempest, in which she was exiled with her father to an island. Miranda is known for her naiveté, compassion, and tendency to fall in love with the first man she meets.

Miranda, the small, broken moon who proudly bears the marks of her cosmic history, a symbol of celestial resilience, beautiful even in her scars. Her sticker is just as resilient, and it's waiting for you on our website!
