Once one of your body's cells is infected by a parasite, it raises an alert flag. CD8+ T cells recognize the flags and act like snipers, eliminating only the infected cell to limit the infection quickly and efficiently! They differ from CD4+ T cells in that they carry different receptors on their surface (CD8) and therefore play a role in elimination and not in orchestrating immune defense.
