Leptospira interrogans is a bacterium shaped like a question mark! It's no surprise, given its name. This spirochete is responsible for leptospirosis, a disease that affects humans and animals.
It is found mainly in humid environments : stagnant water, muddy soil and especially... in the urine of rats, its favorite reservoirs. (A little tip: wash your cans well before drinking... you never know who's been there!)
This bacteria enters the body through small wounds or through the eyes, mouth, or nose. Once in the bloodstream, it can reach the liver, kidneys, lungs, and even the brain ! While the infection starts like the flu, it can quickly become more serious... or even fatal without treatment. Fortunately, antibiotics can help get rid of it.
To avoid crossing paths with him: avoid swimming in questionable waters, protect yourself in wetlands and keep an eye on rodent populations!
And if this bacteria has piqued your curiosity, adopt it... as a harmless sticker of course!
WHAT??? Leptospira interrogans is waiting for you in our shop to join your collection!
