Ganymede is the largest moon in the Solar System (even larger than the planet Mercury)! It is one of the four Galilean moons, named in honour of the famous astronomer who discovered them, Galileo Galilei. A majestic satellite of Jupiter, it is a world in its own right, with mountains, plains, and ice scars that tell the story of billions of years of cosmic history.
What makes Ganymede unique is that it's the only known moon to have its own magnetic field, a true invisible shield, like a mini living planet. Beneath its icy crust, scientists believe a salty ocean stretches hundreds of kilometers deep... perhaps even a refuge for life !
Its surface marbled with white and brown, it mixes ancient ice and younger terrain, a sign that it remains active and mysterious, sculpted by time and the gravitational forces of Jupiter, making it a work of art on a planetary scale!
NEWS FLASH: In Greek mythology, Ganymede was a young Trojan prince, possessing exceptional beauty. This attracted the king of the gods, Zeus (Jupiter in Roman mythology), who abducted the young prince to make him his lover and the gods' cupbearer (the one who pours drinks). The constellation Aquarius was created in his honour.
To stick on Ganymede' sticker is to carry with you the quiet power of a giant world, a symbol of balance between strength and mystery, and a reminder that even among the moons, some shine like planets. His sticker awaits you on our store website!
