Enterococcus faecalis lives peacefully in our intestines, where it even plays the role of friendly bacteria by helping with digestion. Everything's fine there! But be careful... if it decides to go sightseeing in other parts of the body (like the blood, the urinary tract, or a wound), it can quickly become an unwanted guest.
Depending on where it settles, E. faecalis can cause all sorts of problems: endocarditis (heart infection), urinary tract infections, or even surgical wound infections . And as if that weren't enough, this little rascal has become a regular in hospitals , where it develops resistance to antibiotics, making its treatment sometimes much more complicated!
Moral of the story? We keep this bacteria in the intestine, and nowhere else! So remember to wash your hands well, and especially to use antibiotics in moderation (always follow the advice of doctors!).
But the good news is: in sticker form, E. faecalis is 100% harmless and 100% cute. So why not adopt it? Quickly add Enterococcus faecalis to your science collection ! 🦠✨
