Charon

Charon is Pluto's largest moon and a fascinating world in its own right! With a diameter of about 1,200 km, it is almost half the size of Pluto, and together they form a unique cosmic duo : Pluto and Charon orbit the Sun together, linked by their common center of gravity, like two cosmic dancers in perfect synchronization.

Its surface is covered with water ice, gigantic valleys, fissures and craters, revealing a rich and mysterious geological history. Some areas even show signs of landslides or cryovolcanism, proving that Charon is not totally dormant.

FUN FACT: Charon's name is often explained as derived from the word "charopós", "fiery-eyed", which can mean cruel, glowing, or feverish eyes, or eyes of a blue-grey colour. It is possible that it was a euphemism for "death".
