Brucella melitensis is the bacterium responsible for brucellosis, a disease that affects not only humans, but also goats and sheep ! This little intruder can infect humans when consuming unpasteurized dairy products, or even through direct contact with contaminated animals.
The symptoms? Severe fatigue, muscle pain, and night sweats… which can last for several weeks , even months ! If left untreated, brucellosis can cause serious complications. Fortunately, with a good course of antibiotics, recovery is possible – although the treatment can be a bit lengthy.
To avoid infection: it is better to say no to raw milk cheeses, and to respect hygiene rules when working with animals.
And if you want a 100% surefire way to crossbreed B. melitensis, go for its science sticker : totally harmless, but scientifically stylish! 🐐🦠✨
