Bacillus anthracis

Bacillus anthracis is the bacterium that causes the famous anthrax disease, an infection that mainly affects animals, but can also infect humans . This microbe has a superpower: it can survive for years in extreme conditions by transforming into spores , small, compact and ultra-resistant capsules. Without food, without water... it patiently waits for a new host to come within range to wake up and attack again!

When activated, B. anthracis releases very powerful toxins, capable of causing serious infections in different parts of the body: skin, lungs, intestines... and often in a devastating manner. A true fighting bacterium, which must be watched out for: its infections can be fatal in a few days without treatment .

(Not so) FUN FACT : This bacteria has been infamous for another use... as a biological weapon ! In the form of spore powder, it has been sent by mail during targeted attacks. Fearsome in its natural form, it is even more so when misused. This is why knowing more about it also means better protection.
